Brief History

> All seniors were the pioneer to establish the PhD program in Epidemiology and Biostatistics <

The PhD Program in Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Faculty of Public Health, Khon Kaen University (KKU) in Thailand, was initiated and developed by two senior faculty members of our faculty:

  • Professor Supannee Promthet, PhD (Department of Epidemiology)
  • Associate Professor Bandit Thinkamrop, PhD (Department of Biostatistics and Demography)

As well as, the four key persons who collaborated with the program including;

  • Professor Jadsada Thinkamrop, MD
    (Faculty of Medicine, KKU)
  • Professor Prasit Pengsa, MD
    (Faculty of Medicine, KKU)
  • Professor Malcolm Antony Moore, PhD
    (Faculty of Public Health, KKU)
  • Professor Hsiu Hsi Chen, PhD
    (National Taiwan University, Taiwan) 

However, many professors from our networks on cancer screening and registry can join with the program, especially The International Asian Cancer and Chronic Disease Screening Network (IACCS).    

Since 2013, the program has been admitting both Thai and international students and has been offered continuously every year up to the present until batch#13 (2025). As well as, the program has been revised every five years based on the regulation for developing the programs in all universities of Thailand,  including the first round (2013–2017), the second round (2018–2022), and the third round (2023–2027). The program in each round was revised depending on the contexts and high technology  which changed. For example, COVID-19 pandemic, Learning process changing (hybrid), Big Data, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learnings (MLs).

This program is designed for professionals in medicine and public health who wish to enhance their expertise at an advanced level in epidemiology and biostatistics. It emphasizes integrating professional experience and existing knowledge with the principles of epidemiology and biostatistics while fostering international collaboration and knowledge exchange.
